Summer 2018 College Station Artist in Residence

The Arts Council offers a summer residency program for visual artists from mid-May through mid-August 2018 in College Station, Texas. Eligible applicants must be current students enrolled in a visual arts program at a community college or university, or graduates of a visual arts program from a community college, four-year university, or master's program within the past year. Artists must concentrate in one of the following areas: 2-D mixed media, 3-D mixed media, drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, or watercolor. Applicants must be available to live in College Station for the full residency period, have a reliable vehicle and insurance, and be able to pass a background check.

The residency includes an unfurnished two-bedroom apartment provided rent-free from mid-May through mid-August 2018 (artist responsible for utilities, cable, and internet), access to a studio space, a $500 stipend for supplies and living expenses, mentorship sessions with area artists on exhibition installation, sales, financial management, and continuing education, and a solo exhibition and opening at a local gallery organized and funded by The Arts Council. No travel costs are provided.

Artists are required to live in College Station during the residency, maintain the apartment, attend up to 3 mentorship meetings, and install and deinstall their exhibition. No more than 25 percent of the exhibition may consist of work created prior to the residency. For any pieces sold in the show, the artist receives 70 percent and The Arts Council receives 30 percent (with an additional 2.5 percent deducted for credit card transactions). The application deadline is March 28, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Entry fee is $10.00. Applicants must submit 3-6 images. Final decisions will be made no later than April 18, 2018.
