Summer 2017 College Station Artist in Residence

The Arts Council offers a summer residency for visual artists from mid-May to mid-August 2017. Eligible applicants must be current students or recent graduates (within one year) of visual arts programs at community colleges or universities, concentrating in 2-D mixed media, 3-D mixed media, drawing, painting, photography, or watercolor. Applicants must be available to live in College Station during the residency period, have a reliable vehicle and insurance, and be able to pass a background check.

The residency includes an unfurnished two-bedroom apartment provided rent-free from mid-May through August 14, 2017 (artist responsible for utilities and deposit), a $600 stipend to assist with studio space rental, and mentorship sessions with area artists on exhibition installation, sales, financial management, and continuing education. Artists must find their own studio space, though The Arts Center studio facilities may be available on certain dates. A solo exhibition will be held at the Texas Gallery from July 27 to September 9, 2017. Artists must be available for installation on July 25-26, the opening on July 27, and deinstallation on September 11-12. No more than 25 percent of the exhibition may consist of work created prior to the residency. Any pieces sold will be split 70 percent to the artist and 30 percent to The Arts Council, with an additional 2.5 percent deducted for credit card transactions.

Applicants must submit materials by March 29, 2017 through the Call for Entry application. Final applicants will be selected for interviews at the Arts Center (2275 Dartmouth Street, College Station) via in-person, phone, or webcam.
