About This Call
Niza Knoll Gallery in Denver, Colorado announces a juried exhibition celebrating traditional and emerging expressions in Sumi-e painting. Artists are invited to explore techniques in creating Sumi-e or Far East Asian influenced fine art with ink, watercolor, and/or acrylic mediums. Artwork can be representational, expressionist, nature-based, or abstract. The exhibition celebrates the approach of Sumi-e painting and expression, honoring tradition while pushing limits and exploring new possibilities.
Paintings must be no smaller than 12 x 14 inches and no larger than 60 x 72 inches. This is an unframed painting show; works should not be framed and should not require a frame to complete the expression. All artwork must be completed within the past three years and must be available for sale during the exhibition. Entry fee is $40.00 for 1 to 3 entries. The juror is Mamiko Ikeda, a cultural educator and multi-media artist from Tokyo, Japan who specializes in calligraphy art, prints, and animation.
The exhibition opens September 7, 2018 and runs through October 20, 2018. Important dates include: jurying complete by August 21, acceptance letters by August 23, shipped art received no later than September 3, hand delivery September 4 from 12pm-2pm, artists reception September 21 from 5-8pm, and pickup October 20 from 3-5pm. Awards will be given to Best of Show, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. Artists are responsible for all shipping costs including return shipping. Niza Knoll Gallery retains a 40% commission on all retail art sales, with payment issued within 45 days after the close of the exhibition.
