About This Call

The Sugar Land Cultural Arts Foundation (SLCAF) is seeking four (4) accomplished muralists with a proven track record to participate as live mural painters for the 2025 Sugar Land Arts and Music Fest at the Smart Financial Center Plaza. This is the fourth annual Sugar Land Arts Festival, and live mural painters are a staple of the event.

The mural theme is "The Feeling of Music." Murals must be designed as 4 feet wide by 8 feet tall (vertically oriented) on a primed and stretched canvas substrate provided by the festival. Selected muralists must paint on-site Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm, with the option to continue on Sunday, April 27, until 1:00 pm or 4:00 pm (whichever comes first). Muralists can arrive Friday, April 25, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm to sketch and prepare designs. Each selected muralist will receive a $500 stipend and $150 for materials. Parking passes, a muralist lanyard for free entry, and two guest passes will be provided. Muralists must bring their own sun protection, water, stool, towel, and other comfort items. After the festival, all murals will be installed within the Smart Financial Centre Sugar Land for one year with accompanying signage.

Applications must be submitted by January 31, 2025, via Zapplication with a $10 application fee per concept. Muralists can submit up to 5 separate concepts. Each application must include a complete muralist profile, concept sketch or digital rendering, artist bio (no more than 200 words), concept title and description, materials and technique description, estimated completion hours, 3 images of previously completed murals, and confirmation of ability to attend the full day Saturday and complete the mural within the two-day time limit. No nudity, heavy religious or political overtones, or sexually suggestive artwork is permitted. Notification of acceptance will be provided by March 15, 2025. The mural becomes the property of SLCAF after the festival, with the right to transfer ownership to Smart Financial Centre or another entity for display.
