About This Call
Established in 2002, the Student Artist Showcase is a judged competition open to students in grades 6-12 attending public and private schools in South Florida. Entries will be accepted online from January 15 through March 8, 2024. An independent panel of jurors consisting of Miami-Dade County Public Schools and University of Miami art specialists, local artists, museum directors, and gallery owners will evaluate submissions. Teachers will be notified of results on March 22, and qualifying artwork must be delivered to the Lowe Art Museum between March 27 and April 12.
Artwork must be two-dimensional and fall into one of five categories: Painting (oils, acrylics, watercolor, brushwork), Graphics (drawing, pastels, oil sticks, printmaking), Mixed Media, Photography, or Digital Art. Artwork must be titled, no larger than 18"x24" and no smaller than 8"x8" before matting, and must be unframed and white matted for display. A maximum of five pieces per teacher may be submitted. Artwork must include the school name, student's full name, grade, submission category, and teacher's name, email, and phone number.
On April 20, judges will examine physical artwork to determine Award Winners and Best in Show Winner. First and Second Place awards will be given in five categories, plus the "Linda Pallot" Best in Show award. All 21 awards (10 to middle school, 10 to high school, and 1 Best in Show) include a monetary component. Honorable Mention awards will be designated as the "Myrna Pallet Award of Excellence." Finalists will be displayed at the Lowe Art Museum during a reception on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at 6pm. All entrants receive a certificate of participation. Artwork may be picked up between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2024, or within one week from the Lowe lobby.
