Student Art Showcase

Western CT State University and the Cultural Alliance of Western CT invite high school students to the inaugural Student Art Showcase. Students in grades 9-12 attending public high school and homeschool throughout Connecticut are eligible to participate. Selected students will be featured in an art exhibition at The Gallery at the Visual and Performing Arts Center, with top selected artists receiving special recognition and awards at the opening reception.

The theme is "Our Story," encouraging students to express their unique identity and engage audiences from different backgrounds. Works will be selected for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place by category, with overall 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners also selected. No entry fee is required. Eligible categories include Drawing and Illustration, 3D Small Works, Painting, and Photography. All works must be original and completed within the last year. Two-dimensional works cannot exceed 60" in height or width including frame; three-dimensional works cannot exceed 36" in height or width. No AI-generated art is accepted. Each student may submit up to three art entries online, with each artwork represented by only one image.

Submission deadline: February 29, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Email notifications will be sent in March 2024. Drop-off to WCSU is April 27, 2024. In-person judging for acknowledgements is May 4, 2024. The art opening is May 18, 2024, with the exhibit running through June 7, 2024. Art pickup is June 8, 2024. For more information, contact [email protected].
