About This Call

Texas Photographic Society announces a juried call for entry, Street Encounters, in conjunction with Arlington Museum of Art's exhibition Vivian Maier: The Color Work. The exhibition will be juried by Paula Tognarelli, Executive Director and Curator of the Griffin Museum of Photography. 50 images will be selected for the TPS exhibition, which opens at the Rooftop Gallery, Arlington Museum of Art, Arlington, Texas, on November 27, 2020, and closes February 21, 2021.

Street Encounters celebrates the art of street photography in the spirit of Vivian Maier, who captured the world around her like an unknown witness. The call seeks imagery that conveys everyday life and happenings. Both color and black-and-white images are accepted. All photo-based processes are welcomed, and submissions from artists of all levels are encouraged. The competition is open to artists at least 18 years old, of all levels internationally. Works exhibited previously in a TPS show are not eligible. Current TPS Board members may enter but are not eligible for awards.

Entry fees are $30 for TPS members or $38 for non-members, covering 5 images, plus $6 for each additional image up to 12 total. Submit digital JPG files only, minimum 1200 pixels on the longest side and 5 MB maximum, without watermarks. Awards include First Place ($500), Second Place ($300), Third Place ($200), and up to 5 Honorable Mentions. Framed works must not exceed 20 inches in the longest dimension and are due to Arlington Museum of Art by November 17, 2020. A prepaid return shipping label must be provided. TPS collects a 30% commission from all prints sold during the exhibition.
