Strathmore's 34th Annual Juried Exhibition: Steeped

Strathmore invites artists to submit work for "Steeped," the 34th Annual Juried Exhibition exploring the theme of tea. Tea carries a rich history spanning thousands of years and is part of many cultures. This call welcomes creative minds to contemplate the tastes, smells, traditions, and emotions associated with tea in various media. Artists may explore tea vessels, depictions of tea and tea traditions, artwork made with tea, or the sense of warmth and belonging. Artwork may be of any style and medium, including pieces that invite viewers to touch the work. Artists from the DMV region and beyond are encouraged to apply.

Submission fee is $35 per artist for up to 8 works. Fees are non-refundable but tax-deductible and can be paid by credit card, debit card via Stripe, or check. Application deadline is January 19, 2026 at 11:59 PM. Jury notification will be sent February 12, 2026. Accepted work must be dropped off February 26-28. The exhibition opens to the public March 7, with an opening reception on March 19. The exhibition closes April 22, and all artwork must be picked up by Monday, April 23. Artists are responsible for all delivery and pickup arrangements and costs. All artwork must remain on site throughout the entire exhibition; early removal is prohibited.

All artwork must be matted, framed, or otherwise exhibition-ready. Hanging artwork must be fitted with ¾" d-rings or larger, or screw eyes with ¼" diameter opening or larger. Metal frames must use omni or screw hangers. D-rings, screw eyes, and hangers should be installed ¼ or less of the total height from the top to ensure flush hanging. Cleats, sawtooth hangers, steel plates, wire, or nail-requiring devices are not acceptable. Jurors are Darryl Patterson and Adah Rose Bitterbaum, who will evaluate submissions on technical mastery, connection to theme, and original and aesthetic approach. There is no limit to how many works from one artist may be accepted. Artwork previously exhibited or for sale at Strathmore is not eligible.
