Straddling the Line: Between Abstraction and Representation

The Waiting Room Gallery invites artists to submit two-dimensional artwork to 'Straddling the Line,' a juried exhibition running from October 16 - November 20, 2021. The exhibition seeks artwork in any medium that explores the relationship between representation and abstraction, revealing how abstract forms may subtly suggest recognizable forms, or how ordinary objects serve as points of departure for abstract vision. Acceptable mediums include drawing, painting, collage, and mixed-media. The Best in Show award includes a solo exhibition at The Waiting Room Gallery in spring 2022.

Artwork must be original, completed within the last three years, and ready for installation upon arrival. Maximum dimensions are 60 x 60 inches (including frame), and wall-hanging work must weigh less than 35 pounds. Artists may submit up to 12 pieces; the entry fee is $35 for 3 images and $5 for each additional image up to 12. All fees are nonrefundable. Work must be available for sale, with The Waiting Room Gallery retaining a 30% commission on sales. Artists are responsible for insurance covering their artwork while on display.

Submissions must include artist's full name, contact information, website and/or Instagram account, title of piece, medium and substrate, dimensions, year completed, price, artist statement, and CV. Entries are only accepted through the CaFE online system. The deadline is September 24, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Shipped artwork must arrive by October 11, 2021. Unsold artwork can be picked up between November 21-25, 2021. The gallery is located at 3258 Larimer Street, Denver, CO, open by appointment or 9-5pm Monday through Friday. Eligibility is open to all artists residing in the United States.
