About This Call
Art Saint Louis presents "Storytellers," an all media juried visual art exhibition featuring artworks inspired by or about the written word including poetry, literature, nonfiction, artists' books, stories, narratives, fiction, and more. All explorations and interpretations of this theme are invited, and all visual art media, styles, and techniques are encouraged. Open to artists 21 years of age and older living in the St. Louis, Missouri region and surrounding 200-mile radius.
The exhibition will be held at Art Saint Louis Gallery, 1223 Pine Street in downtown St. Louis, MO, from April 13-May 28, 2020. A free reception is scheduled for Saturday, April 25, 2020, 5-7 p.m. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-4 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m.-3 p.m. (closed Sundays and holidays). Entry deadline is January 30, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Entry fees are $35 for non-members and $20 for ASL members. Artists may submit 1-6 images and 0-3 videos (minimum 1 total sample, maximum 6 total samples). Artworks must be created between 2017-2020 and limited to 3 original works per artist. Final installation size for 2-d and wall-displayed work cannot exceed 72"w x 72"h including frame, with a weight limit of 30 lbs for wall-installed works. All wall-installed works must hang from standard picture hanging hardware.
Jurors are Jamie Kreher, artist and Professor of Art at St. Louis Community College Forest Park, and Chris Kahler, artist and Department Chair and Professor of Art at Eastern Illinois University. The jurying process is conducted anonymously, with jurors viewing only artwork title, year, media, dimensions, method of display, and optional artist's statement. Awards of Excellence will be selected, including one $250 Best of Show Award of Excellence and four non-cash Awards of Excellence. All five award recipients will be eligible for the "Honor Awards 2021" ten-artist curated exhibit presented at Art Saint Louis, June 12-July 15, 2021. Artworks must be available for exhibition and not double-booked or committed to conflicting exhibits.
