About This Call

Dab Art announces the 2019 spring installment of STORIES, a quarterly arts publication and online exhibition exploring artists' individual stories and personal experiences within the LGBTQ community. The journal will feature artworks and essays that explore the struggles and successes of the LGBTQ community.

Accepted artwork includes painting, printmaking, sculpture, glass, fiber, functional, digital, photography, installation, mixed media, and new genres. Proposals may include multiple disciplines. Written material is not mandatory, but short stories and essays from selected artists are welcome and can be included in the artwork description. Entries will be juried and selected based on technical application, originality, and concept. Minimum 3 images required, maximum 20. Entry fee is $40.00, with an additional $5.00 media fee for additional entries.

The published journal will be a high-quality 8.5 x 11 inch paperback book. All exhibiting artists will receive a gratis paperback edition from Dab Art; a hardback edition will be available for purchase. Journals will be added to the permanent catalog in the LACMA Balch Art Research Library. All featured artists will be exhibited in an online show running April 1 - June 30, 2019, hosted by DabArt.me and visible on ARTSY, an internationally recognized curated art market platform with nearly 2.5 million monthly visitors. All exhibiting artists receive a gratis paperback edition. Two cash honorariums will be awarded: $150 to the artist selected for the cover and $50 for the juror's pick. The cover artist will also receive a gratis hardback edition. Notification of selected artists will be sent via email on March 11. Final deadline for digital files, statements, and biography is March 25. The journal releases May 1.
