About This Call

Stories from Nature is a juried fiber art exhibition exploring how nature inspires artistic and functional expression. Fiber artists may submit up to two works for consideration. Works must be completed after January 31, 2019, be 100% original, and not executed under supervision or from a kit. Each entry requires a title, narrative, techniques used, list of materials sourced from nature, other materials used, dimensions, weight, insurance values, and sales price or NFS designation. Items must be ready for hanging or display with installation directions provided if necessary.

The exhibition runs May 1 to July 31, 2021, at the Hudgens Center for Art and Learning, 6400 Sugarloaf Parkway, Building 300, Duluth, GA 30097. The opening reception is May 1, 2021, from 2-4 p.m. with a gallery talk at 3 p.m. All pieces must be less than 60 inches in any direction and weigh less than 80 pounds. Jurying is based on aesthetics, originality, craftsmanship, and suitability of technique and materials. Jury decisions will be notified on March 15, 2021. The juror is Catharine Ellis, a textile artist with over 40 years of experience in weaving and natural dyeing.

Entry fees are $25 for CHG members and students, $35 for non-members. Submissions require 1-4 images (maximum 4 total). Prizes include Best of Show ($750), Visual Inspiration including color ($300), Materials Sourced from Nature ($300), Narrative Expression ($300), Science and Systems ($300), and Student Award ($200). Award checks will be mailed within 30 days of the opening reception. The artist is responsible for shipping and insurance to the venue. The Hudgens Center provides insurance during the exhibit and return shipping (excluding international submissions). Pieces sold incur a 30% commission to the Hudgens Center. Pieces will be displayed along glass windows without UV filtering. Accepted pieces must remain hung for the entire exhibition duration. The deadline for item return is August 31, 2021.
