About This Call

The Seattle Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs, in partnership with Shunpike, seeks artists to develop temporary installations for vacant storefronts in Seattle's Pioneer Square and Chinatown/International District neighborhoods. The installation project will activate storefronts from September to November 2010. Artwork may be in any two-dimensional, three-dimensional or new media format, including video, film, light, sound, or any combination. Artists will receive $500 per installation and may be selected for more than one installation. A total of twelve installations will be awarded. The call is open to artists living within 100 miles of Seattle. Students are not eligible to apply.

Applicants must submit a letter of interest (not to exceed 2,000 characters), résumé, three references with contact information, and 10 digital images with work sample descriptions. Artists may submit previously produced artwork. Selection is based on artistic merit and appropriateness for the site. A panel comprised of representatives from the Pioneer Square and Chinatown/International District neighborhoods and arts professionals will review submissions. Artists will be notified of the selection panel's decisions by early August 2010 via email.

Application deadline is 11 p.m., Monday, July 26, 2010 Pacific Daylight Time. Applications must be submitted digitally via the CaFÉ online system at callforentry.org. For questions, contact Ellen Whitlock Baker at [email protected] or 206.905.1026.
