Stone Soup - Group Exhibition

Founders Art Gallery at Soka University of America invites submissions from artists in Southern California who work within 2D and 3D visual media for a group exhibition. This show is centered around and informed by the healing nature of intergenerational connection, community, and the power of visual storytelling. Artists aged 18 and older are encouraged to submit artworks in any medium for consideration.

The exhibition features works from an intergenerational group of artists from Southern California, inspired by conversations with their grandmothers. Curators Frances DePhillips and Shayla Rose-Brown are shaping an exhibition of works that seek to inspire ongoing conversations among artists of all ages. The exhibition explores themes including intergenerational connection, the passage of time, memories, the warmth of gathering, resilience in togetherness, storytelling, childhood, and future perspectives. Abstract or alternative forms of exploration regarding these themes are welcome.

The exhibition will be held in Founders Hall Gallery at Soka University of America in Aliso Viejo, California from September 18, 2025 to January 8, 2026. An opening reception will be held on September 18, 2025. Artists may submit up to five pieces. All submissions must include images of work (JPEG 300 dpi), an artist statement, and a brief description of how the work aligns with the exhibition's themes. The submission deadline is April 15, 2025 at 5 p.m. There is no submission fee. Accepted artists will be notified by email by April 22, 2025. All accepted artworks must be ready for display. Artists are responsible for transporting and dropping off their own work before the exhibition begins and picking up their work at the end of the exhibition. No insurance will be provided for artwork during the exhibition.
