About This Call
Art in Oregon offers an Artist Residency Program in collaboration with the Stevens-Crawford Heritage House, open to Oregon resident artists who have resided in Oregon for at least one year prior to application. Selected artists receive one month in a private 10'x6' enclosed sun porch studio located in the historic McLoughlin neighborhood in Oregon City. The studio is available 24 hours a day and includes access to a kitchen, bathroom, and courtyard garden (room and board not included). Only one artist will be onsite per month.
Four residencies are offered per year: two in spring (May 1-29 or June 1-July 3, 2020) and two in summer (August 1-29 or August 31-October 2, 2020). Selected artists receive a $300 stipend and are required to volunteer 20 hours at the Heritage House during their residency. Artists conclude their residency with a public showing of their work: Spring participants exhibit July 11-October 2, 2020; Summer participants exhibit October 10-December 13, 2020. Artists are encouraged to explore ideas with some relationship to Oregon City and/or the Heritage House, including historical events, social or political data, local materials, structures, or natural landscapes. The studio is not furnished; artists must bring all materials and equipment. This residency is ideal for 2D/digital artists and those who do not require large spaces or equipment.
To apply, submit 7-10 images reflecting your current art practice, a numbered list prioritizing your preferred residency sessions, a one-page statement of intentions, and an artist CV/résumé with current address, phone number, and website (if applicable). The $15 application fee is required. Applicants have the option to be added to Art in Oregon's Art Shine Database of Oregon artists.
