State of the Arts 2023

State of the Arts 2023 is the Prairie Village Arts Council's 17th annual juried competition for all 2D and 3D artworks (excluding photography) held every Fall. The exhibition runs during September and October, with installation on September 9th and opening on September 11th. The show closes on November 4th, 2023.

Awards include: $1,000 for Best in Show, $750 Merit Awards (two presented), $500 People's Choice Award, and $100 Honorable Mention Awards (five presented). The juror is Susana Bruhn, Executive Director of GUILDit and former employee of the Kansas City Art Institute and Hallmark.

Eligibility is open to artists 18 years or older within approximately a 2-hour drive of the gallery. Three entries are allowed per artist with a $35 entry fee for 1-3 entries (non-refundable). Only one piece per artist will be selected for the show. Artwork must be original, not more than 2 years old, not created in a class or under supervision of another artist, and not copied from published or others' photos without written permission. 2D artwork selected for display must be D-ringed and wired for hanging, not exceeding 25 square feet total. 3D work cannot exceed 18 inches in any dimension. All work must be for sale with prices binding after submission. The gallery takes a 40% sales commission. Selected artists must be able to attend the artist reception and awards ceremony. Artwork must be picked up on November 4th, 2023 between 8 AM and 10 AM; unclaimed work will incur a $10 per day storage fee.
