About This Call

The New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) in consultation with the New Jersey State Council on the Arts is seeking artists to design, construct, and install artwork within the Department of Health Building in Trenton, New Jersey. This Art Inclusion Project is authorized under the Public Buildings Arts Inclusion Act and funded accordingly.

The project site is located at the corner of West Hanover Street and North Willow Street in Trenton. The building is a 209,000 square foot, 6-floor state office building with 3,500 square feet of mixed-use space on the first floor, sidewalk improvements, and pedestrian crosswalk improvements. There are four separate artwork opportunities: (A) Mural at wall surface with a maximum budget of $75,000; (B) Terrazzo floor with a maximum budget of $50,000; (C) Finished artwork pieces on various wall locations (separate RFP to be issued later, limited to artists based in Mercer County, New Jersey); (D) Exterior streetscape artwork with a maximum budget of $200,000 (two sculptures at $100,000 each).

Artists must be based in New Jersey, Delaware, New York, or Pennsylvania, as they will need to attend frequent project meetings and site visits. Submissions must include a letter summarizing interest and experience in public art, a resume, 4-6 photographs of similar public art installations, at least 3 references, and website links. The Art Selection Committee will select up to three finalists per artwork project to proceed to the proposal phase. Shortlisted artists will receive a stipend of up to $1,000 to cover presentation preparation and travel expenses for in-person presentations at NJEDA Headquarters in Trenton.
