About This Call
stARTup Art Fair Los Angeles is a contemporary art fair for independent artists. The three-day fair takes place February 15-17, 2019 at the Kinney Venice Beach, with easy access to Venice Beach, Santa Monica, and Marina Del Rey. stARTup LA occurs concurrently with Frieze Art Fair at Paramount Pictures and the Art Los Angeles Contemporary gallery fair in Santa Monica, approximately 10 minutes away. Participating artists will have the opportunity to expose new work to collectors, curators, gallery owners, art consultants, and writers attending the weekend of contemporary art.
The core mission of stARTup Art Fair is to provide a marketplace that gives artists the power to present and sell work on their own terms, with all sales proceeds belonging 100% to the artists. Selected artists will each take over a hotel room for three days to present a solo show. The Selection Committee includes Mark Moore (Owner/Director, Mark Moore Gallery, Los Angeles), Lezley Saar (painter, Los Angeles), Shana Nys Dambrot (Art critic, Curator, and Editor, LA Weekly, Los Angeles), Amanda Færk (Assistant Director V1 Gallery, Copenhagen), Amy Kisch (Art consultant/Curator, AKArt Advisory, San Francisco), and Daniel Mendel-Black (painter, Los Angeles).
Exhibitor fees vary by room type and location: King Rooms (272 square feet) range from $2,600-$3,000; Double Double Rooms (420 square feet) are $3,400; Suites (400 square feet) range from $3,700-$4,400. The exhibitor fee is fully inclusive of 4 nights at the hotel (Thursday, January 24 check-in through Monday, January 28 check-out) and includes complimentary parking for one vehicle, complimentary Wi-Fi, all hotel and occupancy taxes, public liability insurance, and private security. The fair provides a personal artist page on the stARTup website with bio, images, and website link, optional feature on Artfinder, all advertising and marketing costs, curatorial support during installation, and professional development insights. Applications are accepted through November 11, 2018. Entry fee is $25.00. Work sample requirements: minimum 7 images, maximum 20 total samples (up to 3 audio files and 3 video files permitted). International artists are eligible.
