About This Call
The City of Westminster is seeking an experienced muralist to complete a mural on the east side of an underpass along Farmer's High Line Canal Trail, under Westminster Boulevard just north of the Westminster Sports Center. The mural surface is approximately 550 sq. ft. of painted concrete. The selected artist will be paid a $3,950 commission inclusive of all related expenses, including materials and insurance. Scaffolding will be provided if needed. The mural must have a theme associated with hope and believing, and must be apolitical, non-religious, and not government-centric. No vulgar, profane, discriminatory, violent, or pornographic references are permitted.
Eligibility is limited to experienced muralists in Colorado's Front Range who are professional artists over the age of 18. Applicants must submit: a complete application, 5 images of original artwork (with the option for up to 1 video), a current resume limited to two pages outlining professional accomplishments including previous murals and relevant government contracts, a statement of interest (250 words or less) describing interest in the opportunity and experience with similar projects, and a vision statement (500 words or less) with a rough draft describing the artist's concept for the mural.
The selection process occurs in three steps: Step 1 closes July 21, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Step 2 will compensate three to five semifinalists $200 each to submit and present concepts during the first week of August. Step 3 will select the winning concept on or before August 15, 2019, with completion required by October 31, 2019. The selection committee will evaluate artistic excellence, technical competence, conceptual compatibility, appropriate relationship to site function, resistance to wear and sustainability in intense sun, snow, wind and extreme temperatures, ease and low cost maintenance, previous experience, and the artist's vision statement. All submissions must be made online through Callforentry.org. Notification of acceptance to semifinals will be made by phone or email on or before July 31, 2019.
