About This Call

Selected sculptors will receive a $500 honorarium and all sculptures selected will compete for up to $13,000 in cash prize awards. The jurors will select one or more pieces for purchase to become a permanent part of Saint Joseph's public art collection. Only pieces priced $15,000 or less will be considered for purchase. The Allied Arts Council will receive a 25% commission on any sculpture sold and on any commissioned sculptures.

Artists must own the rights to the artwork and the sculpture must be available for the duration of the one-year contract. All submissions must be professionally constructed of durable materials that will withstand the elements. Artists may submit up to four sculptures for consideration, with three images per submission showing front, back, and detail views. All dimensions and stated insurance value must be provided. The installation method for each sculpture should be welded tabs or similar easy-install method. Selected artists are responsible for transportation of the artwork to and from the installation site. The Allied Arts Council is responsible for all costs for materials and workmanship for initial installation, including site preparation, plinth, and cleanup. The Allied Arts Council will provide $5,000 in liability insurance and inland marine insurance coverage on all sculptures for the duration of exhibition.

Artist must be at least 18 years of age. Entry requires submission of a brief biography, concise CV/resume, one-paragraph narrative for each sculpture entered, and directions for installation and removal. Work must be suitable for outdoor installation, able to be structurally secured to a concrete pad or metal base with anchor bolts, capable of withstanding adverse weather conditions, fabricated with non-hazardous materials, maintenance-free for the duration of the exhibition, and appropriate for an active pedestrian environment. No sculpture entries identical to sculptures already placed or to be placed in other similar public sculpture programs within 200 miles of St. Joseph will be considered. Selected works will be exhibited throughout downtown Saint Joseph from June 12, 2014 until May 9, 2015. Sculptures must be loaned for the duration of the exhibition and may not be removed or returned until the conclusion unless prior arrangements have been made with the Allied Arts Council. An artists' reception will be held June 12 followed by the public unveiling and awards ceremony on June 13, 2014. Entry fee is $25.00 per two sculptures submitted.
