About This Call
St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, a parish in the Diocese of Rockford, Illinois, is seeking an artist design for a mural in their new American Gothic church currently in Phase I of a capital campaign. The sanctuary wall measures 50 feet by 40 feet and consists of five panels, each 10 feet wide, located behind the altar. The design may include two-dimensional images or three-dimensional elements such as glass, metal, wood, or a reredos.
The mural should incorporate seven themes agreed upon by church leadership: Heavenly Jerusalem, River of Life, Lamb of God/Holy Spirit/God the Father (Trinity), Eternal Crucifix, Tree of Life, Ark of the Covenant, and Throne of Heaven. The design is intended to inspire the faithful in the connection between the promise of heaven and existence on earth. Artists are encouraged to review reference materials, architectural renderings, and virtual tours on the church website at www.scbparish.org under the Capital Campaign tab, as well as the church's Facebook page.
Submissions must include four images (one proposal image and three examples of past work), a resume, and a statement of interest. A selection panel will evaluate proposals, with short-listed applicants potentially interviewed. The Selected Artist will receive $5,000 for their design, and finalists will each receive $500. Entry fee is $15.00. Application deadline is June 30, 2012 at 11:59 p.m. MDT.
