About This Call
DISTRICT Arts, a contemporary art gallery located in the historic district of downtown Frederick, MD, presents "Spring Fling," a juried exhibition featuring works reflecting the artists' concept of Spring. This could include themes of awakening, renewal, and regeneration, as well as interpretations of blooming flowers or trees, a barn dance, Spring Break, trout fishing, Spring Rolls, Bedsprings, or Pasta Primavera.
Artists may submit up to 3 original works created within the past three years. Accepted artists will have only their highest scoring work in the show. Entry fees are $25 for one entry, $30 for two entries, and $35 for three entries. A $5 media fee applies. 2D works may not exceed 60 inches in width or height, including frame and must be ready to hang with wire. 3D works must fit a 12" square or 12" x 18" pedestal or be freestanding. All work must be visibly signed by the artist and include edition numbers for hand-pulled prints, photography, or digital art. Works must be priced for sale. No reproductions are permitted; photography and digital art must be limited in edition and signed and numbered. Works previously exhibited in a juried or featured artist show at DISTRICT Arts are not eligible.
The show will be independently juried by Evan Boggess, Gallery Director and Lecturer at Shepherd University, who holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Hoffberger School of Painting, Maryland Institute College of Art. Awards include Best in Show $500, Award of Merit $250, and Honorable Mention $100. The application deadline is March 21, 2022. Notifications will be sent by email on April 11. Shipped and hand-delivered work must arrive between April 25 and May 2. The exhibition runs May 4-30, 2022, with an opening reception on May 7 from 5-7 p.m., with awards announced at 6 p.m. Hand-delivered work may be picked up after 3 p.m. on May 30 through June 5. Shipped work will be sent by June 7 and must be accompanied by a prepaid return label. This exhibition is open to residents of the United States only.
