About This Call
Spotlight on Student Fiber Trends 2016 is an exhibition for undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in a fiber/textile program or independently pursuing a study of fibers/textiles in the Southeast (Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, or Tennessee).
Each student may submit up to three works, with an overall image and up to two detail images for each work. Submitted work must be original in design and completed between January 1, 2014 and May 9, 2016. Entries must utilize textile- or fiber-based techniques (interlaced, felted, stitched, dyed, coiled, knotted, printed, spun, woven, etc.) and can be of any material. Only individual work will be considered; no group projects will be accepted. Students proposing installation work must be prepared to personally install and remove it. Each submission must include an artist statement (1000 characters maximum), up to three images per work (full view with up to two detail images), and the application fee. Digital submissions via CaFE only.
Entry Deadline: March 15, 2016. Entry Fee: $25 for non-members (includes 1-year student membership in SEFAA); $15 for SEFAA members. Work samples: 1-9 images. Notification of Acceptance: April 15, 2016. Delivery of Accepted Work: May 9-13, 2016. Awards: First Place $800, Second Place $500, Third Place $300, and Honorable Mentions at juror's discretion. Juror: Arturo Alonzo Sandoval, Endowed Alumni Professor, University of Kentucky. All shipping costs and insurance are the artist's responsibility. Murray State University Galleries will insure work while in gallery and in storage at fair market value. Work will be returned only if pre-paid return postage and shipping labels are included with the initial shipment. Artists may sell work through the show with no commission charged.
