About This Call
Spooky Camp is an international open call online exhibition curated by Kendra Larson. The exhibition runs March 5 through April 1, 2022, at Shoebox Projects, an alternative art space supporting artists through curator opportunities, residencies, representation, and exhibitions.
The exhibition features work influenced by horror films or film noir that strikes a balance between dark subjects and absurdity. Artwork should be described as uncanny, unsettling, absurd, spooky, campy, playful, and/or haunting. Work that is overtly scary, gory, hurtful, offensive, or depressing will not be considered. Any media is accepted (drawing, video, painting, sculpture, digital, intermedia, etc.), though 2D artworks with screen grabs from moving imagery will be juried as static images. Videos must be submitted if the entire moving piece should be viewed. Work requiring specialized equipment will not be considered. Videos are limited to 10 minutes in length and will be presented via YouTube or Vimeo links.
Entry deadline is January 28, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. PST. Entry fee is $10.00 plus $5.00 media fee. Applicants must submit 3-10 work samples (images and/or videos). Accepted artists will be announced February 11, 2022. A Zoom opening reception and artist talk will be held March 5, 2022. Awards include first place (online solo show at Shoebox Projects in 2022), second place ($100), and third place ($50). All sales are handled directly between the artist and buyer with no gallery commission. The exhibition is open to all artists age 18 and older.
