About This Call
The Spokane Watercolor Society invites artists living in the United States who are 18 years or older to submit original watercolor paintings for this juried exhibition. The exhibition runs from April 8 to May 1, 2023, with jury dates from February 14 to April 20, 2023.
Eligibility and Requirements: Each painting must be an original work executed after January 1, 2020 and not previously exhibited in any juried SWS exhibition. All paints and media must be water-soluble (watercolor, gouache, acrylic, casein, or ink). Paintings must be accomplished directly on natural fiber paper or illustration board. Collage or other media may be used on up to 20% of the painting, with all collage materials being original designs on watercolor paper. The visible painting area must be a minimum of 7 inches on the shortest side and a maximum of 30 inches on the longest side. Unsuitable material and nude representations will not be hung. Artists may not substitute accepted works or withhold them from the show.
Submission and Fees: Individuals may submit a maximum of two paintings. Entry fees are $45 for the first painting and $20 for the second painting (nonmember rates). Members receive reduced fees of $30 for the first painting and $20 for the second with coupon codes. Submissions are made online at www.callforentry.org with JPG or JPEG images (1,200 pixels or greater on the longest side, 2-5 MB file size). Framing must have a professional appearance with maximum weight of 40 lbs. All pieces must be under polycarbonate or acrylic glazing (glass not allowed). Single or double matting in white or nearly white is permitted.
Awards and Notification: Awards include First Place ($500), Second Place ($300), Third Place ($200), Juror's Choice Award ($150), and two Honorable Mentions ($100 each). Acceptance notification will be by email, and accepted artists' names and painting titles will be posted on the SWS website. Paintings must be retrieved on Monday, May 1, 2023 between 10:00 am and noon. Artists are responsible for arranging alternative pickup or shipping before May 1. Insurance is the sole responsibility of the artist.
