About This Call
Request for Qualifications: The City of Spokane is seeking qualifications from artists and artist teams interested in creating artwork for the University District Pedestrian Bridge. Specific proposals are not being requested at this time. The University District Pedestrian Bridge will connect the UDistrict to the East Central Business District (International District) and will serve as a major hub for bicycle and pedestrian traffic from north to south.
The total project budget is approximately $85,000. Artists will be compensated for the design phase of the project. Following artist selection, a scope of work will be developed with the artist/artist team, design team, and community members. At successful completion of the design phase, the artist/artist team and/or appropriate fabricators will be engaged to create the work of art. Artist compensation will cover artist fees, fabrication, insurance, travel, installation, documentation, and all related costs.
All artwork will be outdoors and integrated into the site and/or bridge. Artwork could include reflection, create a source of light, celebrate transportation, or reflect the history of the neighborhood. The artwork should be welcoming, enhance the visual appearance of the bridge site, appeal to a broad age range, and be uplifting and stimulating to the spirit, intellect, and physical senses. Selection criteria include artistic merit, relationship to the site and project intent, demonstrated ability to carry out the project, ease and cost of maintenance, and safety of the artwork. Eligible artists must reside in the Inland Empire of Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. Both emerging and established artists are encouraged to apply. Teams should submit applications as a package. Submissions should include digital images, resume, and artist statement through www.callforentry.org. A limited number of artists/artist teams may be invited to an oral presentation and interview. Contact: Karen Mobley, Program Manager, Spokane Arts Fund, (509) 321-9614.
