About This Call
The Spokane Public Facilities District and the Spokane Arts Fund will commission an artist or artist team to work on site improvements for several indoor locations at the Spokane Convention Center.
Project Scope: All artwork will be indoors and may be a wall piece or overhead sculpture. The artwork should be welcoming and enhance the visual appearance of the Convention Center, appealing to a broad age range and uplifting to the spirit, intellect, and physical senses. The artwork will be in public use areas and seen by all clients, residents, and staff. Work should show a connection to the region and unique attributes of Spokane. Environmental stewardship is encouraged given the Convention Center's "Green" building status. Artwork must be completed by 2014.
Budget and Compensation: The total project budget is $45,000. Artists will be compensated for artist fees, fabrication, insurance, travel, installation, documentation, and all related costs. The initial phase involves design work developed collaboratively with the artist/artist team, design team, and community members. Following successful completion of the design phase, the artist/artist team and/or appropriate fabricators will be engaged to create the artwork.
Eligibility: Artists, architects, or teams of artists residing in the Inland Empire of Washington, Idaho, and Eastern Oregon. Both emerging and established artists are encouraged to apply. Artist teams should submit applications as a package. Selection Jury includes Public Facilities District Board Members, staff, and Spokane Arts Fund Public Art Committee Members. Selection criteria include artistic merit, relationship to site and project intent, demonstrated ability to carry out the project, ease and cost of maintenance, and safety of the artwork. The application process does not require designs for the project itself, but rather focuses on the artist/artist team's experience, qualifications, quality of representative past work, and expression of philosophy, vision, and spirit. A limited number of artists/artist teams may be invited for oral presentation and interview.
