About This Call

The Spokane Public Facilities District and the Spokane Arts Fund will commission an artist or artist team to work on site improvements for several outdoor locations at the Spokane Convention Center. Artists, architects, or teams of artists residing in the Inland Empire of Washington, Idaho, and Eastern Oregon are eligible.

The artist/artist team will be paid for the design phase of the project. Following artist selection, a scope of work will be developed with the artist/artist team, design team, and community members. Upon successful completion of the design phase, the artist/artist team and/or appropriate fabricators will be engaged to create the work of art. The artist will be compensated for artist fees, fabrication, insurance, travel, installation, documentation, and all related costs. The total project budget will be determined as integrated into elements of the building.

All artwork will be integrated into the built environment in the public use area adjacent to the Convention Center. The artwork should be welcoming and enhance the visual appearance of the Convention Center, appeal to a broad age range, and be uplifting and stimulating to the spirit, intellect, and physical senses. The artwork should show a connection to the region and the unique attributes of Spokane. Environmental stewardship is encouraged, as the Convention Center is a "Green" building. The space is located along the Spokane River at one of the Spokane community gateways. Selection criteria include artistic merit, relationship to the site and project intent, the artist or artist team's demonstrated ability to carry out the project, ease and cost of maintenance, and safety of the artwork. The selection jury will include Public Facilities District Board Members and staff and Spokane Arts Fund Public Art Committee Members.
