Spokane Arts Commission: Small Projects Public Art Roster

The Spokane Arts Commission is creating a roster of artists who can create work for outdoor environments, including sculpture, street furniture, and murals. Preference will be given to artists who live in the Inland Northwest. The roster will be used for small budget projects, including work for a firestation, projects in the Sculpture Walk, and murals planned for 2012. Many projects will be grant funded or paid for by private funders, with several projects expected in the next two years contingent on grants and fundraising.

Art selection will be made by Art Selection Committees consisting of Arts Commissioners, representatives of the agency/building or neighborhood, architect/landscape architect, and peer artists. The Spokane Arts Commission reserves the right to not select any artists for the roster. Artists may be asked to create more formal proposals after initial selection. This call is open to professional artists and to those with no previous experience in public art.

Applicants must submit a resume, three references, and 20 exemplary images of artworks demonstrating their abilities. An Image Identification List is required, including media, size, budget size, location of work, and the applicant's role in creating each work. Selection criteria include strength of past artworks, experience working in public settings, and experience fabricating and installing permanent or temporary artwork. Applicants will be notified of their inclusion on the roster by November 1, 2011.
