About This Call
Mount Dora Center for the Arts invites artists of all genres and ages to submit images of original 2D and 3D art for the Spirit of Frida Kahlo Art Competition & Exhibition, held in conjunction with the 2nd annual Mount Dora Viva La Frida Festival. Artists are encouraged to showcase their personal stories and cultural heritage while expressing the colorful uniqueness and moral complexities that Frida Kahlo represented. Artwork representing an image of Frida Kahlo is not required.
The entry fee is $25 and covers up to 8 artwork submissions. Submissions must include 1-8 images of original work in any visual art medium, including painting, drawing, landscapes, printmaking, illustration, photography, digital arts, sculpture, glass art, fiber art, textile art, collage, abstract, and mixed media. All submissions must be the original work of the applicant. AI-generated artwork is prohibited. Artwork previously shown in the MDCA Gallery is not eligible. Artists need not be in Florida to participate.
Accepted artwork must be delivered by Friday, September 12, 2025 at 3 p.m. to the MDCA Gallery at 847 E. 5th Ave in Mount Dora, Florida. Hanging work must have wire securely attached; freestanding sculptures must stand solid on their own. All artwork must be available for sale during the exhibition, with MDCA retaining a 40% commission on sales. The exhibition runs September 19 – October 12, 2025. Unsold artwork must be picked up October 13-14, 2025 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Awards include 1st Place ($300), 2nd Place ($200), 3rd Place ($100), honorable mention ribbons, and a People's Choice Award voted by gallery visitors. The Awards Ceremony and Artist Reception is Friday, September 19, 2025 (5-7 p.m.). Notifications regarding application status will be sent no later than August 27, 2025.
