About This Call
The Jamestown Arts Center is seeking sculptures and installations for its 2021 exhibition season, late June through October 31. The outdoor exhibition entitled SPACING OUT(side) will relate to the summer exhibition in the JAC's main galleries, SPACING OUT: Expanding the Field of Vision, which contextualizes the work of contemporary artists who challenge the limitations of space. In keeping with the main gallery exhibition, the JAC welcomes outdoor proposals that engage space in interesting or unusual ways, are original in their construction or use of materials, or offer an unexpected point of view. Finished pieces, proposed work and site-specific works are welcome.
The JAC is soliciting artwork proposals for three sites: 1) East Ferry "Christmas Tree" site for large scale or impactful works up to approximately 12' tall, with a $2,500 honorarium; 2) Fort Wetherill/Fisheries campus for work mounted to existing concrete slab, with a $1,000 honorarium; 3) Bike Path entry off Eldred Avenue for sturdy artwork or installation capable of installing without heavy equipment, with a $1,000 honorarium. All artists should consider ways to participate in community-based programming within the constraints of COVID, such as holding an artist's talk, creating a participatory project on the JAC's community wall, or hosting a virtual tour of their studio.
Selected artists will receive an honorarium and the opportunity to list work for sale, with artists receiving 65% of sales. Artwork will be on view for four months in highly-visible locales with identifying signage. The JAC will carry liability insurance and publicize the exhibition through its website, online map, social media, direct mail, newsletter, and local print advertising. Artists are responsible for transportation of work to and from Jamestown at their expense and must assist with installation and removal. Works must be suitable for outdoor installation, built in durable and stable fashion, and capable of withstanding adverse weather conditions. Works must be 12' x 8' x 8' or smaller, or made of components up to this size. Artist retains copyright and the JAC will credit the artist whenever the artwork is exhibited or published. Application deadline is March 31, 2021. Notification of selection will be April 27, 2021, with installation June 21-27, 2021.
