About This Call
STEMarts Lab is seeking artist-created 3D models for a space-themed augmented reality installation that will become part of the traveling Space Messengers [AR] project. Six models will be selected and imported into the WebAR platform, allowing festival participants to access the AR experience from any device via QR code or direct link. Artists will be paid a stipend each time their model is selected for a festival and will be credited accordingly. STEMarts Lab is W.A.G.E. certified.
The call seeks artistic and innovative 3D models of space objects or phenomena, artistic models inspired by scientific theories such as quantum field theory or gravitational waves, or models inspired by interplanetary universe themes. All entries must be original content created by the artist and meet specified 3D model and AR criteria. Artists are not required to have AR creation experience; 8th Wall/AR experience is an added bonus that could lead to other collaboration opportunities. STEMarts works with both student and professional-level artists and pays stipends appropriate to experience level.
Submissions must include photos and videos of the 3D model uploaded through CAFE, plus the .GLB file emailed to [email protected]. Final 3D models must be in GLB (glTF 2.0 binary) format with an optimal polygon target of 30,000. Textures must be PBR compatible. Entries can also be created using 3D JavaScript frameworks such as a-frame, three.js, babylon.js, and playcanvas. Entry fee is $10. This call has a rolling deadline with a final cut-off of March 20, 2025. Entries submitted by May 20, 2024 will be considered for all festivals. Space Messengers has been presented at ARS Electronica in Linz, Austria, The PASEO Festival in Taos, New Mexico, and the Balloon Museum/Fiesta in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The project is sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts, NMarts, LANL Foundation, US Consulate General in Guadalajara, and NM International Trade Alliance, and created through partnerships with ATLAS Experiment at CERN, Fermilab, and the National Radio Astronomy Observatory/Very Large Array.
