About This Call
The Space for Earth - Space for All design challenge is open to students ages 14-20 in northern New Mexico classrooms (including Albuquerque) and STEMarts International partner schools in Portugal, Mexico, Ireland, and Austria. Participants submit a drawing and design statement expressing an original design solution informed by one or more of the sustainable development goals outlined in the Space4SDGs, exploring how space science and technologies can benefit humanity for all citizens.
Students create designs in any medium, then digitize them using scanning apps and submit them online as a JPG image along with a one-page PDF design statement. Designs should be imaginative yet rooted in science and research, demonstrating how space science and technologies can improve life on Earth for all citizens. Examples include bio-sensors connected to satellite forecasts, fashionable wearables from space technologies, or futuristic interstellar vehicles. The STEMarts website provides comprehensive resources including a teacher guide, student design tool, and curated space-related research to support the design process.
Teachers and students must register using the Google registration form at https://forms.gle/k3hh8noxKsnXG5qr5. Teachers serve as account holders and can submit multiple student projects (up to 20 per account; additional accounts needed for more submissions). Student names should be added in the form questions section, and design statements must be copy-pasted in the Artist Statement field. Images should be uploaded to the My Portfolio section. The entry deadline is April 9, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Submissions require a minimum of 2 images and a maximum of 20 images per application.
