About This Call
The Southern Watercolor Society's 49th Watermedia Exhibition is a juried competition open to current 2026 members of the Southern Watercolor Society who reside in the United States. Membership dues of $30 must be paid online before entering. The entry fee is $35 for the first entry and an additional $10 for a second entry. Artists may submit up to two painting images, with no more than one painting per entrant selected for exhibition.
Eligible works must be original in composition and completed within the last 5 years (2021 or later). Paintings are limited to water-based media that can be diluted and manipulated with water, including acrylic, gouache, casein, egg tempera, watercolor paints, water-based metallics, water-soluble ink, watercolor pencil, and watercolor crayons. Works must have a minimum image size of 140 square inches with a maximum outside frame size of 44 inches in either direction. Collage is acceptable if it consists only of paper painted by the artist.
The exhibition will be held at Gadsden Arts Center & Museum in Quincy, Florida from February 20 to April 25, 2026. Accepted works must be professionally framed and ready to hang with proper hardware. Cash awards and merchandise awards will be presented. Acceptance into three exhibitions earns Artist Signature Membership, while acceptance into ten exhibitions earns Life Membership.
