About This Call
Letters of interest and qualifications are requested from artists interested in creating art for the public areas of the new Southern Utah University School of Business in Cedar City, Utah. The SUU Business Building will be the new home of the School of Business beginning in the 2018 academic year.
The building will be located on a high-visibility site at the northern edge of campus at the intersection of University Boulevard and the Library Walk. The design incorporates natural materials such as masonry reflecting Southern Utah's natural beauty, with glass used to contrast the heavy mass and embody the forward-thinking nature of the business world. A central two-story collaborative zone called "Wall Street" spans the building from north to south, creating a central spine where interaction and collaboration are encouraged.
The Selection Committee is seeking site-specific work that is harmonious with the building's design and contributes to an environment that inspires students to think creatively. The work should encourage thought, exploration, and contemplation while remaining accessible in concept and intent. Potential sites for placement include the main interior corridor ("Wall Street"), stairwell area, and south interior and/or exterior facing the main campus. A budget of $104,000 has been allocated by the Utah State Legislature for this public art commission. Submissions should include 1-6 images. Eligibility is open to artists nationally.
