About This Call
The University of Southern Mississippi Museum of Art presents the Southern Miss Ceramics National, 2024, a juried exhibition of ceramic vessel forms (utilitarian and non-utilitarian), sculpture, and ceramic art installations. This biennial exhibition, which began in 2016, has become one of the top ceramic arts exhibitions in the country, featuring a broad spectrum of contemporary ceramic works by both emerging and established artists. The exhibition runs October 14 - November 8, 2024.
Eligibility is open to all US residents 18 years of age or older. Entries must have been completed within 5 years of the entry deadline. Ceramic sculptures, vessel forms (functional or sculptural), and ceramic installation works are eligible. Mixed media works are eligible only if ceramic/clay is the primary medium. Individual components of ceiling suspended or wall mounted works should not exceed 20 pounds; freestanding and pedestal displayed works must be stable and not exceed 50 pounds. Size (including crating) is limited to works that will fit through a standard door (32 x 80 inches). Up to 3 entries may be submitted. Entry fee is $35 for up to three entries. Each entry requires one digital JPEG image at 72 dpi, no more than 5 MB, and no smaller than 1920 pixels on the longest side. All entries must be original works and available for the duration of the exhibit.
Jurors are Tom and Elaine Coleman, highly recognized ceramic artists whose works are included in major museums including the Smithsonian American Art Museum's Renwick Gallery and the Racine Art Museum. The timeline includes: Entry Deadline August 1, 2024; Jury Notification September 1; Receipt of Works September 9-23; Installation begins September 25; Show Opens October 14; Closing Reception November 7 or 8; Return of Works November 9-15, 2024. Both monetary and non-monetary awards are presented. Works can be listed as available for purchase or NFS (Not for Sale), with no commission taken on sales. The University of Southern Mississippi Museum of Art will provide insurance coverage for all artwork while on campus; artists are responsible for insurance during transit. For questions, contact Museum Director Mark Rigsby at [email protected] or (601) 266-5200.
