About This Call
The University of Southern Mississippi Museum of Art announces the Southern Miss Ceramics National, a juried exhibition of ceramic sculpture, sculptural vessel forms, and sculptural installations created by artists from across the United States. The exhibition runs October 4 – November 4, 2016.
Eligibility: Open to all US residents, 18 years of age or older. Entries must have been completed within 3 years of the entry deadline. Ceramic sculptures, sculptural installations, and sculptural vessel forms are eligible. Mixed media works are eligible only if ceramic/clay is the primary medium. Individual components of ceiling suspended or wall mounted works should not exceed 20 pounds. Freestanding and pedestal displayed works must be stable. Size (including crating) is limited to works that will fit through a standard door, 32 x 80 inches. All entries must be original works and available for the duration of the exhibit. Accepted works cannot be substituted.
Entry Requirements: Up to 3 entries may be submitted at $35 for up to three entries (two images per entry). Each entry requires 1 to 2 digital JPG images at 72 dpi, no more than 5 MB per image and no smaller than 1920 pixels on the longest side. Artists must provide: name, title of entry, medium (type of clay, other media, and firing method), size (H x W x D inches), insurance value, year completed, and a brief artist statement.
Awards: First Prize: $500, Second Prize: $300, Third Prize: $200. Juror: Brian Harper, Associate Professor of Fine Arts and Ceramics Area Coordinator at Indiana University Southeast. Invited Artist: Kenneth Baskin, Associate Professor of Ceramics at McNeese State University.
Works can be available for purchase or listed as NFS (Not for Sale). No commission will be taken on sales. The University of Southern Mississippi Museum of Art will provide insurance coverage for all artwork while on USM campus and gallery premises. Insurance for artworks in transit is the responsibility of the artist. Artists are responsible for all shipping and delivery costs. Works should arrive between August 22 – September 9, 2016. Return shipping or pick-up of works: November 7-11, 2016.
