About This Call
The City of Pompano Beach will commission an artist or artist team for a work-for-hire mural project on the west exterior wall at 1591 E. Atlantic Blvd. The mural should depict themes of Pompano Beach and the surrounding area, including fishing, boating, beaches, and sunny blue skies. The wall is approximately 1,450 square feet.
The project budget is $37,000.00, which includes all insurance, taxes, fees, and artwork installation. The project is open to all professional artists nationwide who have experience in similar projects. Professional artists are those recognized by critics and peers as practitioners of serious intent and ability, with income realized through artwork commissions and frequent or consistent art exhibitions. Artists are not eligible if they are immediate family or business partners of Public Art Committee members or program staff.
Applications must be submitted through CAFÉ and include a resume, artist statement explaining the proposed design, examples of past work (minimum 3, maximum 5), and optionally a proposed design sketch. The Public Art Committee will shortlist the top three applicants, who will each receive $200.00 and be required to submit a complete, detailed, scaled design with a budget list. The City may request up to three revisions from the final artist's design. Once selected and the agreement is executed, the artist will have 30 days to install the artwork. Final purchase approval is contingent upon inspection ensuring long-term conservation of the artwork.
