About This Call

The South Suburban Public Art Committee requests proposals for permanent artwork to be placed in the interior lobby of South Suburban Park and Recreation District's future Recreation Complex, anticipated to open December 2020. The facility will be located at 4810 S. County Line Road, Littleton, CO 80126, and will include a fieldhouse with two indoor synthetic turf fields and two gymnasiums, an ice arena with three sheets of ice, a restaurant, and district administration offices.

The artwork will be installed on the north lobby wall across from the main entry/control desk. The primary display space is approximately 16 feet tall by 69 feet long (between wainscoting and ductwork), with additional space on the west wall approximately 8 feet tall by 18 feet long. The artwork must work around doorways and can be a single piece or series of elements. Proposed art must be contemporary, bold, colorful, and eye-catching while complementing the building's interior aesthetics. Work must be durable, stable, non-hazardous, and maintainable, with low maintenance requirements. The artist must provide a suggested maintenance plan. Submissions may include existing artist-owned work if appropriate for the site. Lighting is provided specifically for the artwork.

Up to $60,000 is available for all expenses including artist fees, materials, fabrication, finishes, structural engineering, insurance, shipping, travel, coordination with architect, installation, and documentation. The selected artist must provide a Certificate of Insurance effective during delivery and installation. SSPRD reserves the right to request installation plans stamped by a Colorado licensed engineer at no additional cost to SSPRD. This project is open to artists in Colorado and its seven surrounding states (Kansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Utah, Arizona, Wyoming, and Nebraska). The selected artwork may not be duplicated within 500 miles of the site. Finalists will present design concepts and receive a $300 proposal fee. The selected artist will enter into a contract with a 1/3-1/3-1/3 payment plan. Structural connection design must be completed by January 31, 2020, with art installation and completion to be determined in the third or fourth quarter of 2020.
