About This Call
This design call is for a commission bringing public art to life on 47th and King Drive at the South Side Sanctuary. The art created will be representative of the community's culture, connection, and history, serving as a physical embodiment of the neighborhood's soul. The South Side Sanctuary pays homage to those that built Bronzeville, calls community members of the present to come together, and inspires the future of the community.
The South Side Sanctuary is a transformative, design-forward community gathering space dedicated to uplifting and uniting multigenerational community members from all walks of life. The Sanctuary provides creative, entrepreneurial, and recreational pipelines for development and self expression. Applicants selected for commission proposals are subject to juried review. The awarded artist will be commissioned to design interior/exterior fencing and stage panels throughout the plaza and will be paid $15,000 alongside programming opportunities throughout the project.
Applicants must submit 3-10 images (minimum 3 work samples required) and answer all required application questions. This opportunity is available to all Chicago-based artists. Work samples may include up to 6 audio files and 6 video files, with a total of 3-20 samples maximum.
