About This Call
This exhibition recognizes and encourages South Dakota artists, promotes the artistic identity of South Dakota, and celebrates the cultural and artistic heritage and future of the state. The exhibition presents work selected through a juried competitive process, with special invitations sent to fifteen artists who have made an enduring statewide impact through outstanding creative achievement in the visual arts.
All artists living and working in South Dakota are eligible. Works may be 2-D or 3-D and must be original and completed within the last three years. The exhibition is open to all visual media including painting, drawing, mixed media, sculpture, prints, photography, fine crafts, traditional arts, video and books. Up to three pieces per artist may be entered for a $25 entry fee. Digital images should be submitted in standard jpeg format at no less than 1MB and no more than 1.8 MB or 1920x1920 pixels.
The exhibition opens at the Dahl Arts Center in Rapid City on May 11, 2012, and will travel to the South Dakota Art Museum in Brookings (September 25, 2012 – January 27, 2013) and The Washington Pavilion of Arts and Science in Sioux Falls (February 15 – June 9, 2013). Artist notification will be mailed February 15, 2012, and accepted work must arrive by March 15, 2012. Purchase awards of up to $1000 will be selected by exhibition sponsors for work to be added to their permanent collections. Sales to the public are encouraged, with the exhibition retaining a 30% commission. Works must be finished, dry, and ready to hang. All 2-D work must be prepared for hanging with screw eyes or d-rings and wire attached. No more than 40 lbs. for wall-hung pieces and 80 lbs. for 3-D work. Works may not exceed 130 inches in length and girth combined or 108 inches in length. Contact: [email protected].
