About This Call
Artists currently living in South Dakota are invited to submit artworks for consideration for this juried traveling exhibition, the premier showcase for artists living in the state. The exhibition celebrates the quality and diversity of visual art being produced in South Dakota. Selected artworks will travel to multiple exhibiting institutions across the state over the course of one year, with the exhibition catalog serving as a historical record of the state's current artists and art practices.
Eligibility: Only new artworks completed within the last three years may be submitted. All artists living in South Dakota are eligible unless there is a conflict of interest due to current employment at one of the exhibiting institutions. Artworks may be 2-dimensional or 3-dimensional original works in any visual media, including painting, drawing, prints, photography, sculpture, ceramics, mixed media, fine crafts, traditional/folk arts, video art, and artist books. Entry fee is $25.00 for up to three artworks. Submissions require 1-9 images (JPEG/JPG format, maximum 1200 pixels on longest side, minimum 300 dpi) and up to 3 videos. All submitted artworks must be owned and created by the artist and must be for sale.
Each exhibiting institution will designate up to $1,500 for Purchase Awards (up to $6,000 total). Accepted artworks become part of the permanent collections of the purchasing institutions. Exhibiting institutions receive a 30% commission on artworks sold. Accepted artworks must be finished, in good condition, and professionally presented. Artworks on paper must be properly framed with acrylic/Plexiglas glazing. Packaged artworks must not exceed 75 lbs or 96 inches on the longest side. Accepted artworks must be delivered between January 25 and February 5, 2021. The exhibition tour includes: South Dakota Art Museum (March 19–June 13, 2021), Washington Pavilion (June 26–September 19, 2021), John A. Day Gallery (October 16–November 5, 2021), and Dahl Arts Center (December 3, 2021–March 5, 2022). Acceptance notifications will be emailed January 11, 2021.
