About This Call
The South Carolina Watermedia Society (SCWS) invites artists to submit work for its 46th Annual National Exhibition, held at Pickens County Museum of Art & History in Pickens, SC. Since its founding in 1977, SCWS has promoted the artistic and professional interests of its members and provided visual arts programs and education to the public. This high-caliber, juried exhibition draws national participation and is judged by a professional juror.
All entries must be executed in watermedia including watercolor, acrylic, gouache, or collage (primarily painted). Works must be original, painted after May 1, 2020, and not previously displayed in a SCWS exhibition. Maximum dimensions are 48" in either direction including frame, with maximum depth of 2¾" and weight of 25 lbs. Frames must be museum-style natural wood (dark or light), maximum 2¾" wide, with no white or metal frames accepted. Plexiglas/acrylic 1/8" glazing is required for pieces on paper unless sealed/varnished on rigid surfaces. Mats must be white, off-white, or pale grey. Entry fee is $60 for the first entry; second entry is $20. An additional $25 handling fee applies for shipped pieces. Students (high school and college through age 25) may enter at the student membership rate of $45 and must provide official school identification; entries must be original from concept to completion and executed exclusively by the student.
Entry deadline is May 1, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Accepted artists will be notified June 4. The exhibition opens August 5 with an opening reception at 5:00 p.m. and closes October 6. Award winners will be announced at the opening reception. Artists may collect work October 9-20; traveling show pieces remain in the museum's possession.
