South Carolina Watermedia Society 43rd Annual National Exhibition

The South Carolina Watermedia Society invites artists to submit work for their 43rd Annual National Exhibition. This is a national competition open to artists 18 years or older.

Artwork Requirements: Each artist may enter one painting for a $50 entry fee or two paintings for an additional $20 media fee. Work must be completed within the last two years and be primarily water-based media on any appropriate watermedia surface. Other media may be used only in conjunction with watermedia, which must be dominant. Digital media, photography, prints, and reproductions are not permitted. Entries must be original works painted only by the artist, not produced in a class or workshop. Photo reference material must have been taken by the artist. No substitutions, price changes, title changes, or dimension changes can be made after entry. SCWS members receive a waived entry fee with a coupon code.

Award-winning paintings are eligible for inclusion in a 2021 statewide traveling show coordinated by the SC State Museum. Artists will bear shipping expenses to and from the museum. Upon notification of award, artists may choose to send the original work, send a print of the awarded piece, or opt out of the traveling show. Framed work for the traveling show must use natural wood frames (no black, white, or metal), be wired and ready for hanging, be matted in white/off-white/pale grey if applicable, not exceed 48 inches in either direction with a maximum depth of 2¾ inches and weight of 25 lbs, and be glazed with Plexiglas or acrylic (not glass) for works on paper. Artwork inquiries are forwarded to artists, and all sales occur privately between artist and buyer. Artists are responsible for a 30 percent donation to SCWS from sales proceeds.
