About This Call

Something New VIII is a rotating public art exhibition featuring five sculptures displayed in outdoor locations throughout downtown Bainbridge Island, Washington. The exhibit is organized by Arts and Humanities Bainbridge (AHB), the Bainbridge Public Art Committee (PAC), and the City of Bainbridge Island (COBI). Selected works will remain on display for approximately 11 months before being removed to make room for the next collection.

The five display locations include pedestals in front of Town & Country Market on Winslow Way and Erickson Avenue, at the south end of Madison Avenue (Doc's plaza), at the entry door of Bainbridge Island City Hall, and in two spots along the central path in Waterfront Park. All locations are within the Bainbridge Creative District. Eligibility is open to regional artists from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, California, and possibly Vancouver, BC. Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), LGBTQIA+, and young emerging artists are actively encouraged to apply.

Selected artists will receive a $2,000 honorarium, with an additional $1,000 People's Choice Award available. Artists will also receive promotion through multiple channels including feature articles, artist profile videos, and social media marketing. The opening reception is scheduled for August 2025 during the First Friday Downtown Art Walk. Artwork must be completed at submission, suitable for outdoor display, require minimal maintenance, withstand weather and pedestrian contact, and remain available for sale through June 2025 or until jury selections are finalized. Artists are responsible for delivery and installation in June 2025 and removal in June 2026. Artwork cannot be shipped. The City will maintain liability insurance during the exhibition period. Concrete pedestals are provided; anchoring methods must be approved by the City Engineer. Application deadline is April 1, 2025. Artists may submit up to five sculptures, with each submission including resume, artist statement, sculpture description, site preference, 3-5 images, and purchase price.
