About This Call
Something New VII is a rotating public art exhibition featuring sculptures displayed at five outdoor locations in downtown Winslow on Bainbridge Island, Washington. Selected works will remain on display for approximately 11 months. The five exhibition locations include pedestals in front of Town & Country Market on Winslow Way and Erickson Avenue, at the south end of Madison Ave S. (in the Doc's plaza), at the entry door of The Bainbridge Island City Hall building, and in two spots along the central path in Waterfront Park.
Up to five artists will be selected to receive a $2,000 honorarium each, with an additional $1,000 People's Choice Award available. The program welcomes regional artists from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, California, and possibly Vancouver, BC. Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), LGBTQIA+, and young emerging artists are actively encouraged to apply. Submitted artwork must be completed at the time of submission, suitable for outdoor public art, of high artistic quality, require minimal maintenance, withstand weather and vandalism, and be able to withstand pedestrian contact without impeding traffic. Artwork will be on loan to the City and must be available for sale to the public. If purchased by the City of Bainbridge Island, a 25% commission is paid by the artist.
Artists are responsible for delivering and overseeing installation of their sculpture in July 2024 and must be present for removal in June 2025. Artwork cannot be shipped. Selected artists will receive promotion through Arts & Humanities Bainbridge's website, the City of Bainbridge Island's website, local publications, and an Opening Reception during the First Friday Downtown Art Walk in August 2024. Artist interviews will be featured on community websites and may be broadcast on Bainbridge Community Broadcasting. Each sculpture pedestal will feature a plaque with the artist's name, sculpture title, and sponsor information. Submissions should include artist resume, artist statement, contact information, sculpture description, site preference, and 3-5 images with annotated image list. Submit via email to [email protected] or through CaFÉ. Up to five sculptures per artist may be submitted, with each sculpture submitted in its own application.
