About This Call

Something New VI is a rotating public art exhibition featuring sculptures displayed at five outdoor locations in downtown Winslow on Bainbridge Island, Washington. Selected works will remain on display for approximately 11 months before being removed to make room for the next collection. The five exhibition sites include pedestals in front of T & C Thriftway on Winslow Way and Erickson Avenue, at the south end of Madison Ave S. (in the Doc's plaza), at the entry door of Bainbridge Island City Hall building, and in two spots along the central path in Waterfront Park.

Eligibility is open to all local and regional artists (Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, California, and possibly Vancouver, BC). Emerging and Tribal artists are encouraged to apply. Each selected artist will receive a $2,000 honorarium, with an additional $1,000 People's Choice Award available. Artists will receive promotion through multiple channels including Arts & Humanities Bainbridge's website, the City of Bainbridge Island's website, the Otocast mobile app, and local community publications. An official opening reception will be held in August 2023 during the First Friday Downtown Art Walk.

Artwork must be completed at submission, suitable for outdoor public art, and able to withstand weather, vandalism, and pedestrian contact. Sculptures will be displayed on concrete pedestals with anchoring approved by the City Engineer. Artists are responsible for delivering and overseeing installation in July 2023 and for removal in June 2024. Artwork cannot be shipped and must remain available through June 2023 or until final selections are made. Submitted artwork must be available for sale to the public. If purchased by the City, a 25% commission is paid by the artist. Work samples should include 3-10 images and up to 3 videos (3-13 total samples minimum). Application deadline: May 19, 2023.
