About This Call
"Something New" is a public art program sponsored by Arts and Humanities Bainbridge (AHB), the Public Art Committee (PAC), and City of Bainbridge Island (COBI). The inaugural exhibit will be installed in June 2018, placing sculptures in three outdoor locations in downtown Winslow on Bainbridge Island. The platforms at each site will be permanent, but artwork will be rotated annually, with new collections of sculptures selected each year.
Eligibility is open to all local and Washington State artists. Three artists will be selected to receive $1,000 honoraria each, with an additional $1,000 People's Choice Award available. Artists must submit 3-5 images of their work along with an artist's resume, statement, contact information, sculpture description, and site preference. Artwork must be of suitable scale for outdoor public art, require minimal maintenance, withstand weather and vandalism, and accommodate pedestrian contact. Sculptures will be on loan to the City during the exhibition period and must be available for sale to the public. If a sculpture sells, a 25% commission will be paid to the City of Bainbridge Island Public Art Fund. Artists are responsible for delivering and overseeing installation in June 2018 and for removal in June 2019. Artwork cannot be shipped due to lack of storage space and staff.
Selected artists will be featured on the Arts & Humanities Bainbridge and City of Bainbridge Island websites, with links to their personal websites. Marketing includes a feature in Currents Magazine, promotion through the Bainbridge Downtown Association First Friday Art Walk, and the island's Fourth of July celebrations. An opening reception is scheduled for July 6, 2018. The application deadline is March 30, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Artists may submit up to five sculptures using CaFÉ or via Dropbox to [email protected].
