About This Call

"Something New" is a public art program sponsored by Arts and Humanities Bainbridge (AHB) and its Public Art Committee (PAC) in partnership with the City of Bainbridge Island (COBI). The program provides a dynamic public art experience and an ongoing opportunity for sculptors to exhibit and sell their work. The 2019-2020 exhibition will place up to six sculptures in outdoor locations in downtown Winslow, Bainbridge Island. Sculptures will be rotated annually, offering Bainbridge Island "something new" year after year. One sculpture was sold during the first year to the City for its permanent collection.

Artwork must be of suitable scale for outdoor public art and of high artistic quality. Sculptures must require minimal maintenance, withstand weather and pedestrian contact, and not impede traffic. Artwork will be on loan to the City during the exhibition period and must be available for sale to the public. If a sculpture sells, it cannot be removed before the end of the exhibition period. A 25% commission will be paid to COBI with funds deposited into the COBI Public Art Fund. Concrete pads and anchoring bolts are provided by PAC/City Engineer. Artists are responsible for delivering and overseeing installation in June 2019 and for removal at the end of the exhibition in June 2020. Artwork cannot be shipped or stored.

Benefits include a $1,000 honorarium per artist, marketing and PR including a feature in Currents Magazine, promotion through the Bainbridge Downtown Association First Friday Downtown Art Walk, and a $1,000 People's Choice Award for one artist. The Opening Reception is scheduled for August 2, 2019. Artists will be featured on the Arts & Humanities Bainbridge and City of Bainbridge Island websites, with links to each artist's website. Each sculpture pedestal will feature a plaque with the artist's name and piece title. Submissions must include artist resume, artist statement, contact information, sculpture description, site preference, 3-5 images with annotated image list, and acknowledgement of the sample contractual agreement. Up to five sculptures may be submitted per artist.
