About This Call

Logan City in partnership with Somebody's Attic are seeking submissions from artists and artist teams to create a mural for the west-facing alley wall of Somebody's Attic located at 39 W 100 N in Logan. The proposed wall mural project area is 56' x 7' (392 SF). The committee will consider proposals that do not use the entire area or include additional portions of the wall.

The alley is dark and narrow, and Somebody's Attic is seeking a colorful piece that will beautify the alley and engage travelers along the mid-block thoroughfare. The desired mural should depict the broad scope of activities and variable seasons of Cache Valley. This project is partially funded by the Logan City Downtown Mural Grant program. Visual imagery should enhance the aesthetic experience within the City and the historic nature of Logan City's Downtown, and be appropriate imagery for all audiences (not reflecting partisan politics or containing sexual or religious content or expressing a commercial aspect).

The total contract amount is $7,500 and includes all fees for consulting with the project team, design, execution, transportation and travel, site preparation, installation, materials, and anti-graffiti coating. Application deadline is March 5. Finalist selection is March 11, artist selection is April 1, and mural completion is prior to June 30, 2024. Semi-finalists will be awarded an honorarium of $100 to help defray proposal development costs, which will be applied toward the commission amount. Artists/artist teams must be at least 18 years of age and legally residing and authorized to work in the United States. Preference will be given to local artists/artist teams that reside within 100 miles of Logan. Selection is based on artistic excellence, demonstration of skill and quality craftsmanship, and the strength and originality of concept. Upon selection and final design approval, the artist/artist team must complete a Public Art Mural Agreement with the City of Logan and Somebody's Attic prior to installation.
